Tacoma residence damaged by fire early Sunday, fire department says

A Tacoma residence was damaged by fire early Sunday morning, according to the Tacoma Fire Department.

Crews were dispatched to the 3500 block of East I Street about 7:45 a.m. after reports of a possible house fire.

Firefighters arrived to see flames and heavy smoke.

“Crews attacked the fire with offensive strategy; switched to defensive (to keep it from spreading) when unable to reach fire source in basement right away,” the fire department said in a social media post.

About an hour later the fire was under control, according to the department.

“Crews are searching the home for any hidden or smoldering fires,” a social media post reads.

No one was injured. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
