Bicyclist killed Thursday evening in south Pierce County has been identified

A Puyallup man who was killed last week while riding a bicycle on a south Pierce County highway has been identified, according to the Washington State Patrol.

About 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Ty A. Curtis, 55, was headed west on the bicycle in the eastbound lanes of state Route 702 near the town of McKenna.

Meanwhile, a 45-year-old Anchorage man and his passenger were driving east on the same highway, according to the State Patrol. Troopers say they struck Curtis.

The Puyallup man died at the scene of the crash and was later identified by the Pierce County Medical Examiner, according to the State Patrol.

The Anchorage man and his passenger were not hurt. Trooper Kameron Watts said via social media on Thursday there were no arrests and that the incident was under investigation.

Following the crash, the road was blocked for two hours and 20 minutes.
