Tacoma launches resource hub to help the city’s immigrant communities

The city of Tacoma announced a new “resource hub” for Tacoma’s immigrant and refugee population Tuesday, the same day hundreds marched outside the Tacoma Municipal Building in protest of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

The website outlines legal resources in Tacoma and across Washington, a list of Tacoma City Council statements and actions on the topic, and links to state legislation on immigration. The move comes after council members at their Jan. 13 meeting passed a resolution calling for city leaders to create the website.

“The city recognizes that the landscape of immigration policy and resources changes frequently,” the city’s news release states. “While this webpage is not an exhaustive list of all services, it serves as a curated gateway to assist community members.”

Hundreds of people carrying signs and shouting anti-ICE slogans blocked traffic around the Tacoma Municipal Building before Tuesday’s council meeting.
