Amtrak train fatally strikes pedestrian on tracks in Puyallup, police say

A train fatally struck a pedestrian in Puyallup on Wednesday night.

Police were dispatched at 9:02 p.m. to the railroad tracks on North Meridian Avenue for a report of a crash involving the train and pedestrian. When officers arrived, they found the pedestrian dead on the tracks, according to a Puyallup Police Department news release

A witness told police they saw the pedestrian walk over to the tracks before waiting briefly at the barricades. The pedestrian walked around the barricades and onto the tracks, the release said.

An Amtrak train going east struck the pedestrian.

“The Metro Major Collision Response Team is on-scene investigating the collision. Investigators have canvassed nearby establishments in an attempt to locate additional witnesses,” according to the release.

The age and gender of the pedestrian is under investigation, the release said.
