A man has been arrested for stealing hundreds of dollars’ worth of trading cards.
A Feb. 12 Facebook post from the Puyallup Police Department said officers found a man slumped over in the passenger seat of a vehicle in the Target parking lot at the South Hill Mall. Kevin Gill, spokesperson for the police department, told The News Tribune the incident happened on Feb. 5
“Officers arrived and began checking on the passenger and investigating the vehicle,” the post said. “During the investigation, drug paraphernalia was observed in plain view.”
While officers were searching the vehicle, the registered owner of the vehicle approached them, the post said.
“Officers noticed bulky items protruding from his clothing and detained him for further investigation. He was found to be in possession of multiple packages of trading cards and admitted to stealing them from Target prior to law enforcement contact,” the post said. “He was arrested and transported to jail for theft.”
The officers released the passenger at the scene, the post said.
Later, officers obtained a search warrant for the vehicle and allegedly found a collection of stolen trading cards.
“During the search, officers located over $1,000 worth of suspected stolen Magic cards, Pokémon cards, and sports trading cards,” the post said. “Fentanyl and methamphetamine were also located.”
Gill told The News Tribune in an email that the man is facing charges of third-degree theft, possession of stolen property and unlawful drug possession.
“Looks like he really took ‘Gotta catch ’em all’ a little too seriously,” the post said.
