Passenger, 20, killed in overnight crash in Tacoma, Washington State Patrol says
A 20-year-old Ohio man is dead and a 21-year-old Georgia driver is facing a vehicular homicide charge after an overnight wreck in Tacoma, according to the Washington State Patrol.
About 3:40 a.m. Sunday, the driver, who is suspected of driving under the influence, and his three passengers, were headed west on state Route 16 at Sixth Avenue, according to the State Patrol.
Troopers say the driver changed lanes and crashed into the freeway barrier, which caused the vehicle to roll over and come to a stop on its side. The 20-year-old Ohio man died at the scene.
The two other passengers, a 22-year-old man from Illinois and a second 21-year-old man, also from Georgia, were not injured, although they were still taken to St. Joseph Medical Center, the State Patrol memo reads.
The 21-year-old Georgia driver was taken to MultiCare Allenmore Hospital for his injuries, but has since been booked into the Pierce County Jail on suspicion of vehicular homicide, jail information shows.
SR 16 was partially blocked for nearly six hours after the crash, according to the State Patrol.
