Sedan strikes stopped patrol car in Tacoma and drives off, sparking chase

A vehicle struck a patrol car stopped at an Interstate 5 collision scene in Tacoma early Saturday morning, resulting in a chase and DUI arrest, Trooper Kameron Watts shared on X.

Troopers were on scene of a crash on southbound I-5 and South 72nd Street around 1 a.m. when a sedan driving on the right shoulder drove through the scene and struck a patrol car, the post said.

The trooper was outside his patrol car when it happened and sustained minor injuries. He was able to get back in his vehicle and chase the sedan, which didn’t stop at the scene and kept driving southbound on I-5.

The suspect was eventually caught and arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence as well as for a hit-and-run.
