Bus routes changing in Pierce County this month. What riders should know
Pierce Transit will be adding more bus routes and changing other bus schedules starting March 29. Key changes include an extension of the Stream Community Line from the Tacoma Dome Station to Commerce Street Station, according to the transit system.
Routes 1 and 3 will have buses coming more frequently on weekdays as well.
The changes are to improve reliability, connectivity and access to major destinations in the region, according to Pierce Transit.
Routes with changes
Stream Community Line: New stops at Pacific Avenue and 14th Street, Pacific Avenue and 19th Street and at Commerce Street Station.
Route 1 - 6th Avenue/Pacific Avenue: Eight new northbound and 10 new southbound trips will be added. Saturday times are adjusted one to five minutes, and northbound Sunday times are adjusted one to two minutes.
Route 2 - South 19th Street/Bridgeport Way: Changes to the southbound bus schedule.
Route 3 - Lakewood/Tacoma: Nine new northbound and 10 new southbound trips will be added on weekdays. Saturday commuters will see changes to trips that continue as Route 206 from the Lakewood Transit Center. There will be changes in both directions to the Sunday schedule.
Route 4 - Lakewood/South Hill: Weekday times will be adjusted to have better connections at the South Hill Mall Transit Center. Expect weekend schedule changes on the eastbound route.
Route 11 - Point Defiance: Weekday times are adjusted to align with school start and end times. Expect changes to all daily trips that continue as Route 41 from Commerce Street Station.
Route 41 - South 56th Street/Salishan: Changes are made to all trips that continue as Route 11 from Commerce Street Station.
Route 45 - Yakima: Weekday southbound times are adjusted by three minutes.
Route 54 - 38th Street/Portland Avenue: All westbound times on weekdays are adjusted by three to 12 minutes, and one eastbound trip is adjusted by three minutes. There will be changes made to trips that continue as Route 55 from the Tacoma Mall Transit Center. Both Saturday and Sunday schedules are adjusted in both directions.
Route 55 - Tacoma Mall: All southbound trips are adjusted three to 10 minutes, and one northbound trip is adjusted by three minutes. There will be changes to trips that continue as Route 54 from the Tacoma Mall Transit Center.
Route 202 - 72nd Street: Weekday westbound trips are adjusted by four to 10 minutes and eastbound trips are adjusted by one to 10 minutes. On Sundays, one westbound trip is adjusted by three minutes and two eastbound trips are adjusted by five minutes. Expect changes to trips that continue as Route 409 from the 72nd Street Transit Center.
Route 206 - Pacific Highway/Tillicum/Madigan: One northbound trip is adjusted by three minutes on weekdays. Expect changes on weekday and Saturday trips that continue as Route 3 from the Lakewood Transit Center. A note: the JBLM Madigan gate closure detour is expected to end on March 28.
Route 400 - Puyallup/Tacoma: Southbound trips are adjusted one to seven minutes and northbound trips are adjusted two to 11 minutes.
Route 402 - Meridian: Weekday northbound trips are adjusted two to 18 minutes and southbound trips are adjusted two to five minutes. Expect revisions to the Sunday schedule in both directions.
Route 409 - Puyallup/72nd Street: Expect changes to weekday trips that continue as Route 202 from the 72nd Street Transit Center.
Route 497 - Lakewood Hills Express: One southbound trip is adjusted to connect with a revised Sounder train trip.
