A two-car collision on Yakima Avenue killed a driver and dog, critically injured another driver and is blocking both sides of the road Thursday afternoon, Tacoma Police Department Sergeant John Correa told The News Tribune.

One female driver was traveling with a dog southbound, while another car with a female driver and male passenger was headed northbound. The cars struck each other head-on in the 2000 block of Yakima Avenue.

Officers arrived to the scene around 3:15 p.m.

The woman and dog traveling southbound were pronounced dead at the scene. The man and woman in the other vehicle were transported to the hospital. One is in critical condition.

The scene is still active. Expect Yakima Avenue to be closed for several hours while the Traffic Unit investigates, Correa said.

Update: The driver of the second vehicle died at the hospital from her injuries, according to TPD on X.
