A man and woman are in critical condition at area hospitals after a shooting Sunday morning and an assault Saturday night, according to Tacoma police.

About 5:30 a.m. Sunday, police and Tacoma Fire Department crews were dispatched to a shooting in the 2000 block of 96th Street South, which is just east of Interstate 5 and north of state Route 512.

An adult man was found at the scene, Officer Shelbie Boyd said.

Fire crews began life-saving measures before he was transported to an area hospital where he is in critical condition, she said. No one has been arrested.

The night before, Tacoma police were dispatched to an assault in the 3400 block of South 19th Street about 8:10 p.m.

The location was the Wellfound Behavioral Health Hospital, she said.

Once there, they found an adult woman with life-threatening wounds. It wasn’t immediately clear how those wounds were caused, but she was not shot, Boyd said.

She, too, was transported to an area hospital in critical condition after Tacoma fire crews began life-saving measures.

An adult man at the scene was arrested on suspicion of first-degree assault, Boyd said.
