A truck driver died on Friday after he sideswiped a city vehicle, fell out into the roadway and was run over by his own truck, according to the Tacoma Police Department.

The two vehicles were traveling opposite directions on Pine Street just south of the intersection with South Tacoma Way at around 3 p.m., Public Information Officer Shelbie Boyd told The News Tribune.

The passenger truck driver swerved into the opposite lane and sideswiped the city’s Ford F-550, causing him to fall out in front of his own truck and get run over, Boyd said.

He was pronounced dead at the scene. No arrests were made.

Officers are investigating the incident and there’s no clear cause as to why the man drove into oncoming traffic, Boyd said.
