Three people were taken to area hospitals after a fire destroyed a residence in Lakewood Sunday morning, according to West Pierce Fire & Rescue.

About 6:50 a.m., fire crews were dispatched to a mobile home fire in the 3200 block of 85th Street South. They arrived to find it engulfed in flames; however, the three residents – two men and one woman – had already evacuated the residence, spokesman Nathan Johnson said.

He did not know the extent of their injuries, but all three were taken to area hospitals, he said.

The fire was under control about 8:45 a.m. and the cause of it is under investigation, Johnson said.
