A natural gas leak in Milton is causing evacuations, closures and emergency repairs Friday afternoon after a gas line was struck during construction work, East Pierce Fire shared on Facebook.

Units from East Pierce Fire, Milton Police Department and Puget Sound Energy responded to a leak at the intersection of 23rd Avenue and Milton Way around at around 3 p.m.

Crews evacuated all houses within a 330 feet radius of the leak, the post said.

Milton Way is closed from 19th to 27th Avenue while repairs last for approximately three hours.

People are encouraged to avoid the area and expect delays from the road closure, the post said. If you smell gas, leave the area immediately and dial 911.
