Motorcyclist, 19, killed in Saturday wreck in south Pierce County, WSP says

A 19-year-old man was killed Saturday afternoon after he crashed his motorcycle in south Pierce County, according to the Washington State Patrol.

A second motorcyclist, 21, also was involved in the crash but not was not injured, troopers say. Both riders were wearing helmets, a State Patrol memo shows.

About 2 p.m., Tanner J. Trolinder, 19, of Joint Base Lewis-McChord was headed south on state Route 7 at Pilgrim Road, which is south of Eatonville but north of Alder Lake Park, according to a map released by the State Patrol.

Trolinder’s family was notified by the Army, according to the State Patrol.

Troopers say the 19-year-old man failed to negotiate a curve in the area and entered the northbound lanes. He then hit an embankment and was struck by the 21-year-old motorcyclist who was headed north.

Trolinder, who died at the scene, came to a stop in a northbound ditch while the other rider stopped on the southbound shoulder.

The road was blocked for five hours, according to State Patrol.
