Vehicle strikes pedestrian in Tacoma after running red light, police say

A pedestrian is in serious condition after a driver struck her with their vehicle Monday night in Tacoma.

Officers were dispatched at 6:25 p.m. to East 38th Street and Portland Avenue. The woman was in the crosswalk and had the right of way when the driver struck her. The driver, also a woman, allegedly was running a red light, according to Tacoma Police Department spokesperson officer Shelbie Boyd via email.

Boyd wrote the driver stayed on scene. The department’s DUI unit evaluated the driver, and found they were not impaired.

The driver was cited and released for neglient driving. They also recieved some tickets.
