Though Narrows Bridge repairs make headway, expect road closures through Friday
Though construction crews have made progress fixing the Narrows Bridge’s latest broken joint, don’t expect all lanes to be open just yet.
The lane closures on westbound State Route 16 will continue into Friday night, the Washington Department of Transportation shared on X.
It began Wednesday, when WSDOT crews discovered a damaged bridge joint underneath the right two lanes of westbound traffic.
For the safety of Gig Harbor-bound drivers, crews closed the lanes indefinitely until the bridge is repaired, the agency shared in a press release.
Travel from Tacoma to Gig Harbor is currently reduced to two lanes, with the HOV lane open for all vehicles while repairs last.
Two days later, the lanes remain closed, WSDOT announced on X. However, crews have made progress by replacing the broken steel underneath the bridge.
Friday night drivers should still expect closures during their p.m. commute, the post said.

The bridge underwent three emergency repairs on westbound SR-16 last year, and would cost nearly $180 million to address all the needed repairs, The News Tribune previously reported.
