Firefighters battle flames, explosions at Pierce County auto wrecking yard

Multiple vehicles at an auto-wrecking yard in Graham burned Wednesday night.

Firefighters were dispatched to the 20000 block of Meridian East. Stacks of the unprocessed vehicles were on fire. Firefighters also reported explosions, according to Central Pierce Fire & Rescue on X.

“Firefighters worked through the night to contain the fire and manage the hazards associated with burning vehicles and heavy fire load,” the post said.

The flames were under control at about 3:32 a.m. Thursday, and the final fire unit left the area just before 5 a.m.

“A total of 12 units responded to the incident, including 8 fire suppression units, 1 EMS unit, and 3 command/support units,” according to the post.

No one was injured, the post said. The Pierce County Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of the fire.
