Black smoke billowing over Tacoma. Here’s what we know so far.

Update, 6:30 p.m.: The only damage from the fire was contained to the rooftop deck, Shepherd said.

An investigation on the cause is still underway, and units will be on scene for a few more hours, she said.

As of right now, gas and power are shut off to the entire building.

Update, 5:17 p.m.: No injuries were reported from the incident, said Public Information Officer Chelsea Shepherd.

Update, 5:00 p.m.: The fire is under control, TFD shared on X. The department encourages people to avoid the area while crews search for hotspots.

Update, 4:45 p.m.: The fire was upgraded to a two-alarm fire, TFD shared on X. It appears to be contained to a deck on the roof, the post said.

Original post: The Tacoma Fire Department is responding to a fire on the roof of the historic Temple Theatre Tuesday afternoon.

At around 4:20 p.m., authorities received notice of smoke in the Stadium District coming from the Temple Theatre, TFD Public Information Officer Chelsea Shepherd told The News Tribune.

The cause of the fire and if there are any injuries is unknown at this time.
