Pedestrian killed after vehicle collision in Spanaway, police say

Update, 6:10 p.m.: The victim was a 21-year-old male, according to an update from the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office. The causing driver is still on the scene and no arrests will be made.

Spanaway Loop Road is closed in both directions from Military Road to 174th Street South.

Original post: A vehicle struck and killed a juvenile pedestrian in Spanaway on Friday, the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office shared on Facebook.

An expanded traffic collision was reported to authorities at the intersection of Spanaway Loop Road South and 149th Street Court South at 4:37 p.m., per the app Pulsepoint.

Spanaway Loop Road South is closed in both directions from 138th Street South to 152nd Street South, the post said.

Drivers are encouraged to find alternative routes as the road will be closed for “a long period of time,” according to the post.
