A motorcyclist from Renton died Saturday morning after crashing into a guardrail on Interstate 5 over the Billy Frank Jr. Nisqually National Wildlife Refuge, the Washington State Patrol said in a press release.

At around 2:54 p.m., the 72-year-old driver was headed southbound just north of milepost 114, the release said.

The driver veered to the left off of the roadway and struck the guardrail, coming to a rest on the left shoulder.

He was wearing a helmet, and it’s unknown if drugs or alcohol were involved, the release said. The cause remains under investigation.

The road was blocked for two hours and nine minutes, the release said.
