Did you see a plume of smoke? Residential fire in Ruston displaces one

Updated: Around 10 a.m. Monday Ruston Fire Chief Bruce Allen told The News Tribune that one person was displaced by a residential fire in the 5100 block of North Highland Street. No injuries were reported.

The street still smelled of smoke Monday morning as volunteer firefighters washed their gear after putting out a fire that devastated the top floor of a Ruston home. The upper floor and roof on the left side was charred, and the cause of the fire is under investigation, Allen said.

The Ruston Fire Department got a call about the fire at 6:21 a.m. Monday morning. Firefighters put it out quickly, Allen said. No neighboring properties were impacted, and the road nearby was temporarily closed.

Chelsea Shepherd, spokesperson for Tacoma Fire, told The News Tribune this morning that Tacoma Fire provided mutual aid at the scene.

“Ruston Fire is the fire department that services Ruston,” Shepherd wrote in a message to The News Tribune. “Tacoma Fire provides mutual aid for fire/EMS [Emergency Medical Services] when necessary.”

She redirected The News Tribune to the Ruston Fire Department for more information.
