One person is dead after a structure fire in Tacoma on Tuesday evening.

According to an X post from Tacoma Fire at 12:48 a.m. on Wednesday, the fire happened in the 200 block of North Yakima Ave at about 11:47 p.m.

Crews received a call about “an apartment building with flames visible,” the post said. When they arrived, they found flames on the first floor that were spreading to the side of the building.

“Crews extinguished the fire quickly,” the post said. “Fire contained to one unit & some exterior.”

There was one death, the post said, but no one else was harmed.

The News Tribune reached out to Chelsea Shepherd, spokesperson for Tacoma Fire, to ask what caused the fire, but did not receive an immediate response.
