SUV crashes into car on I-5 in Tacoma, then occupants flee on foot, WSP says

The driver and other occupants of an SUV crashed into a car on southbound Interstate 5 Sunday morning, then ditched that vehicle and ran from the scene, according to the Washington State Patrol.

The suspects are still at large, despite troopers setting up a containment area and using a police dog, Trooper Kameron Watts said Sunday.

However, blood was found inside the SUV, which the State Patrol is going to process to determine, via DNA, who the suspects are, Watts said.

Around 6 a.m., the SUV was allegedly traveling at 93 miles per hour in a 60 mph zone on southbound I-5 in the Fife area. The driver passed a trooper, who then attempted to catch up to the speeding vehicle, Watts said.

The SUV then crashed into the back of a sedan near Port of Tacoma Road and was ditched in the area, according to Watts. An unknown number of suspects fled from it, he said.

A check of the SUV license plate showed that it was reported stolen in the town of Cle Elum in central Washington, Watts said.

No injuries were reported by those in the sedan, he said.
