Talk about bad timing: Costco gas station in Tacoma to close for over a month
Bad news for local Costco members: the Costco gas station in Tacoma will be closed for over a month this summer.
Construction on the station, 2219 S. 37th St., began on June 1. The gas station will be fully closed from July 6 through Aug. 14, according to a sign posted on the gas pumps.
Until then, the station is accessible, but construction might cause some re-routing. As of Tuesday, the station was accessible to cars that came in through the front Steele Street entrance.
While the signs on the gas pumps note that the gas station is “expanding,” specific details are unclear. Costco did not immediately respond to a request for more information on the renovations.
Costco has been a popular option for drivers as the price of fuel has increased due to the war in Iran.
In fact, Costco gas stations have sold record amounts of fuel over the last two months and attracted lots of first-time customers, Costco executives said during an earnings call last week.
As of Tuesday afternoon, the average price of gas in Tacoma is $5.72 per gallon, according to GasBuddy, while Costco is charging $5.09 per gallon. The latest national average price of gas is $4.24 per gallon.
