One hospitalized after house fire in Pierce County

Crews put out a fire with 30-foot flames at a house in Graham early Thursday morning.

Ron Kent, district chief for Central Pierce Fire & Rescue, told The News Tribune the call came in at about 12:47 p.m. in the 22500 block of 147th Avenue Court East.

When crews arrived, Kent said, they found the flames consuming the roof, along with a “big column of smoke.”

There was one burn victim in the front yard, Kent said, and she was rushed to a local hospital with severe injuries. Kent said her injuries were not life-threatening.

Four people live in the home, Kent said, and have been displaced because the structure is no longer inhabitable.

Kent said the bulk of the fire was put out within 40 minutes of crews arriving on scene, and the rest of the work since then has been to put out hotspots and monitor the fire. As of 8:12 a.m., crews are still monitoring the scene.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, Kent said.
