Power returned to Temple Theatre, upcoming shows still on schedule

After over a month without power, the Temple Theatre’s electricity is back up and running. And from the sounds of it, the shows are still on.

The theater had lacked power since May 12, when an electrical fire broke out on its roof. A month later, the city posted a “Do Not Occupy” order at the property after finding illegal apartments rented to tenants while investigating the fire.

Power was restored after an inspection on June 17, Tacoma Public Utilities Public Information Officer Mike Halliday told The News Tribune.

What does that mean for upcoming performances at the venue?

A Temple Theatre employee reached Thursday by The News Tribune over the phone said the upcoming shows are not cancelled.

Now that the electricity is back, the “Do Not Occupy” posting no longer restricts use of the building for its intended purposes, Maria Lee, spokesperson for the City of Tacoma, told The News Tribune.

The city did not find any hazardous conditions that would affect the public attending scheduled events, Lee said.

“As always, if any condition were identified that posed a risk to public safety, appropriate notifications would be provided and necessary actions would be taken,” Lee said.

The next performance scheduled at the venue will be the Ukrainian metalcore band JINJER on July 9 at 7 p.m., according to the theater’s website.
