Residential fire in East Pierce County contained, cause under investigation

Crews extinguished a residential fire in South Hill this morning.

Tim Susee, spokesperson for Central Pierce Fire & Rescue, told The News Tribune they received the call at about 6:29 a.m. for a house in the 9500 block of 187th St Ct E.

Susee said the homeowner told crews they woke up to find smoke coming out of the garage. The fire was limited to the garage, Susee said, but the interior of the house saw some smoke.

“No injuries to humans or pets, luckily, the construction stuff, the fire-rated door to the garage, wrecked as it was designed,” Susee said.

Susee did not know for sure if the homeowner was displaced from the house, but said it was likely because of the toxic chemicals in the smoke.

The Pierce County Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause, Susee said.
