Pregnant woman injured in dog attack in Tacoma, according to police
A pregnant woman was injured when she was attacked by two loose dogs Thursday morning in Tacoma, according to police.
Tacoma Police Department spokesperson Shelbie Boyd said in an email that the incident happened at approximately 11:05 a.m. in the 4000 block of Puget Sound Avenue.
The injured woman was walking to her parked vehicle with her own dog, when the two loose dogs approached her. During the incident, the two dogs — an American Pit Bull Terrier and an American Bully — tried to attack her smaller dog and, in the process, knocked the woman to the ground, Boyd wrote. The woman was transported to the hospital and is in stable condition.
Tacoma Animal Control safely impounded the two loose dogs. Their owners have been located and were “cooperative,” Boyd wrote.
After a 10-day quarantine, the dogs will undergo a Dangerous Dog Investigation by Tacoma Animal Control. Their owners will be able to request a hearing after the completion of this investigation.
Boyd shared that the woman’s smaller dog ran off during the attack and, as of 12 p.m., has yet to be found.
When asked about the timeline for the Dangerous Dog Investigation, Boyd stated that the investigation is dependent on various factors, including whether Animal Control can gather witnesses, the woman’s medical condition, and if the injured woman wants to go ahead with a hearing, all of which is still developing.
Boyd stated that Animal Control is still investigating how the dogs got loose.
