A motorcycle collided with a barrier on northbound Interstate 5 late Friday night, seriously injuring the driver and blocking the roadway for an hour.

The 21-year-old motorcyclist was traveling on I-5 near 70th Avenue East when he left the roadway to the right and struck the barrier, according to a Washington State Patrol news release.

The collision caused the driver to re-enter the roadway, cross all lanes then strike the barrier on the left side, the release said.

Upon impact, the bike burst into flames and seriously injured the driver, Trooper Kameron Watts shared on X. The motorcyclist was transported to St. Joseph Hospital.

The collision blocked the roadway for an hour, the release said.

The cause remains under investigation.
