A man and woman in their late 30s were killed Saturday night after the motorcycle they were riding crashed near downtown Tacoma, according to the Washington State Patrol.

Both died at the scene, troopers say.

About 8:20 p.m., they were headed north on state Route 509 from Pacific Avenue. Troopers say they crashed into a barrier in the area and came to a stop in lane two of three.

The road was closed for more than three hours after the crash, according to the State Patrol.
