Power outage planned this week for this East Pierce County city
Some Orting residents will temporarily have their power shut off later this week.
According to a Facebook post from the City of Orting, power will be out from 9 p.m. on Thursday, July 9 to 5 a.m. on Friday, July 10.
The outage area “is expected to include locations generally bounded” by:
- South: Calistoga Street West and Kansas Street West; Harman Way Street and Kansas Street Southwest.
- North: The McMillin Bridge near Washington Avenue North and State Route 162/140th Street East, the McMillin Trailhead.
“The temporary outage is necessary to allow contractors to safely complete work associated with the Kansas Street Improvement Project during overnight construction hours,” the post said.
The Kansas Street Improvement Project started on March 30, The News Tribune previously reported, with the city saying construction will take place for about a year and a half. The improvements aim to rebuild the roadway, add sidewalk improvements and improve water and storm water utilities.
In the post, the city said Puget Sound Energy will contact customers who will be impacted by the outage.
