2-alarm fire destroys construction building, damages Tacoma apartments

A construction building has been destroyed after a fire on Monday evening that spread to nearby apartments.

According to an X post from Tacoma Fire, the two-alarm fire started at about 9:03 p.m. in the 4000 block of South Puget Sound Avenue. It originated in a construction building between apartment buildings, the post said.

The apartment building to the north sustained extensive fire damage, the post said, while the apartment building to the south exterior fire damage.

There were no injuries, the post said.

In an update at 11:35 p.m., the agency said the fire was under control.

Chelsea Shepherd, spokesperson for Tacoma Fire, told The News Tribune in a message Tuesday morning that investigators weren’t able to get inside all the buildings Monday night and will return to the scene Tuesday morning.

The cause is under investigation.
