Woman killed in rollover crash in Milton identified

UPDATE: The woman has been identified as 34-year-old Christine Pedro, of Tacoma, the Pierce County Medical Examiner’s Office said.

INITIAL POST: A woman was killed and a man suffered serious injuries in a rollover crash Sunday morning after fleeing from a traffic violation in Milton, police said.

Milton police Sgt. Nils Luckman said an officer spotted the car driving erratically at 4:47 a.m. in 1500 block of Taylor Street.

“Our officer got behind it,” he said. “(The vehicle) was in the oncoming lane and was all over the road.”

The officer followed the car for a few blocks, Luckman said, before the car went into a ditch, rolled four or five times and came to a rest at the corner of 10th Avenue and Porter Way.

The female passenger was thrown from the vehicle about 100 feet, Luckman said.

East Pierce Fire & Rescue arrived about 5 a.m. and worked for about 30 minutes to free the driver, a man who had been pinned inside the car.

Both the man and woman were taken to a hospital, where the woman later died, East Pierce Fire & Rescue said.

The man was in surgery as of noon.
