Driver, 22, killed in Tacoma crash
A 22-year-old man died Tuesday after crashing his car into a light pole in Tacoma.
The Pierce County Medical Examiner’s Office identified him as Cody Freitas of Tacoma.
The accident took place about 9:15 a.m. at South Tacoma Way and South 47th Street.
Witnesses said the driver was speeding westbound on South 47th Street and recklessly passing vehicles. He ran a red light and shortly afterward hit the pole, police spokeswoman Loretta Cool said.
The driver was taken to St. Joseph Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 9:51 a.m.
It’s unclear whether he was wearing a seat belt.
