Kent house fire caused by food cooking on the stove
Two people escaped a fire that overtook their Kent house Monday night after they left food unattended on the stove, according to the Fire Department.
Firefighters responded about 10:30 p.m. to the 14500 block of Southeast 275th Place, and helped one person still downstairs get outside. The other person inside the house escaped without help.
No one was hurt in the fire.
Investigators determined that food cooking on the stove started the blaze after flames went through the ventilation system and spread into the attic.
The fire’s heat melted window blinds and blackened walls on the second story, but crews kept the fire contained to the kitchen.
