South Sound “Star Wars” fans will have their pick of local theaters to watch the new movie when it comes out Dec. 17.
Tickets went on sale Monday night for “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.”
The AMC theater at the Lakewood Towne Center appears to plan on showing the movie essentially 24 hours a day until Dec. 20, when it will stop most of the overnight showings, according to an online schedule.
It looks as if the theater at 5721 Main St. SW will have 29 showings between the opening at 7 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. Dec. 18.

The Regal cinema in Lakewood, 2410 84th St. S., is scheduled for 17 showings between 7 p.m. Dec. 17 and 12:30 a.m. Dec. 18, with screenings picking back up 9 a.m. Dec. 18.
Regal’s theater at 13317 Meridian Ave. E. in South Hill will have six showings opening night, with the latest starting at midnight, and more starting 9 a.m. Dec. 18.
According to the movie website, the closest marathon event for South Sounders, in which all seven movies are shown in succession starting at 3 a.m. Dec. 17, will be in Federal Way at Century Theatres, 2001 S. Commons.
Regular screenings for the movie opening night appear to be sold out at that theater until the 1:30 a.m. showing.
