A delegation from the Hawaiian islands will be visiting University Place on Thursday (Oct. 22).
The group of 54 professionals are visiting the Pierce County city as part of a larger, three-day tour centered on city-making. The purpose is to meet with administrators and elected officials from the various cities and learn about their jobs and how they operate.
The visit will include a peer-to-peer meeting opportunity where everyone from UP elected officials to the city’s public works director will meet with his or her counterpart from Hawaii.
The visit will happen over the lunch hour.
Representatives from Hawaii’s four counties will be in attendance. That includes Kauai Mayor Bernard Carvalho and Hawaii Department of Transportation Director Ford Fuchigami.
Carvalho and Fuchigami will tour UP and its key streets and destinations, including Bridgeport Way and Grandview Drive, the Village at Chambers Bay (formally known as Town Center) and Chambers Bay.
The Hawaii delegation will also visit Seattle, including West Seattle’s High Point, Bainbridge Island, Olympia and Portland.
