Two jump from Lakewood building to escape fire
Two people were hurt Tuesday when they jumped from the second story of a four-plex in Lakewood to escape a fire, according to West Pierce Fire & Rescue.
The blaze was reported about 4 a.m. at 7508 Cody St. W. after residents and neighbors spotted smoke and flames.
Several people belonging to two families, including children, had to jump from the second floor to escape flames. A man and a woman were hurt, one with burns and the other with back pain, and taken to area hospitals.
Others drove themselves to hospitals, Assistant Fire Marshal Hallie McCurdy said.
Crews put out the fire, which is being investigated.
All residents were displaced because the four-plex is uninhabitable.
