Fantasy Lights’ drive-through displays begin Thursday

After 21 years of putting on the largest drive-through display of holiday lights in the Northwest, Fantasy Lights continues to grow.

Pierce County Parks and Recreation Services kicked off its season last weekend with the Fantasy Lights Walk, which drew nearly 7,000 people.

That’s the largest turnout in event history, recreation supervisor Jen Spane said.

Drive-through nights begin Thursday. Hours are 5:30 to 9:30 p.m.

Every year, the county illuminates the grounds of Spanaway Park with about 300 lighted displays that visitors can drive a 2  1/2-mile stretch to ooh and aah at.

The world of animation includes Santa and Rudolf sailing a ship, penguins sliding down an igloo, reindeer leaping over your car, bears flying kites and snow boys kicking field goals.

The newest addition is a large dog wagging its tail.

Local high school bands perform holiday music that can be heard on 95.3-FM during the drive through the park.

Admission is $14 per vehicle and $45 for a bus with 25 people or more. Half-price nights are Nov. 30 and Dec. 1, 2, 7, 8 and 9.
