Candlelight vigil set for Saturday for Federal Way man killed in crash
A candlelight vigil will be held Saturday in honor of a Federal Way man who died last month after his car hit a patch of ice and crashed into two other vehicles.
The public is invited to join the gathering from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at 37405 Pacific Highway South, where Anthony “Tony” VanMoorsel, 54, died Nov. 25.
Police said VanMoorsel’s car slid on some ice, crossed the centerline and clipped a semi-trailer before hitting a pickup truck. The car rolled onto its side and paramedics had to remove VanMoorsel, who later died at the hospital.
His sister, April Morrow, said she wants to honor her brother and also urge the city to make improvements to the road, which she believes is unsafe.
“We want to make a change so that this doesn’t happen to anybody else,” Morrow said.
Police will be present at the vigil and will block off one southbound lane to ensure the safety of participants.
VanMoorsel is survived by his wife, daughter and three grandchildren. He worked as a driver for a restaurant supply company and enjoyed camping and riding quads.
He served in the U.S. Army for four years.
A GoFundMe account has been set up to help VanMoorsel’s family with funeral and living expenses. Donations can be made to www.gofundme.com/f8cuudtw.
