State revokes license of Spanaway nurse accused of raping wife’s patient

A nurse who lives in Spanaway had his license revoked by the state after allegations that he sexually assaulted a woman being cared for by his wife, who is also a nurse.

Michael Van Kirk, who received his license in 2008, cannot apply for reinstatement of his license in Washington “to protect the public,” according to the Department of Health.

Van Kirk’s license was suspended in August 2014 after the victim, a Tacoma woman, reported what happened.

The woman is deemed a “vulnerable adult” in records and was receiving in-home care from Van Kirk’s wife.

At least four assaults were documented in Van Kirk’s home and once when he picked her up from a shuttle, documents show.

Pierce County prosecutors declined to file criminal charges in the case.
