One killed, child injured in apartment fire
A fire in a South Tacoma apartment Monday morning killed a 48-year-old woman and seriously injured her 5-year-old grandson, according to the Tacoma Fire Department.
An investigation is underway into what caused the fire.
It was first reported before 11 a.m. at the Pacific Point Apartments, 1801 S. 84th Street. A neighbor who spotted the flames rushed in to try and put out the flames with a fire extinguisher but was unsuccessful.
Firefighters contained the blaze to a single apartment, which was destroyed.
All residents in the building were evacuated. They had not been let back into their homes by Monday afternoon because the power remained off.
The boy was taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. A hospital nursing supervisor said he was in serious condition Monday night. The woman was identified as Deneen Evans.
