Police help University Place man dispose of potentially dangerous substances
About 20 law enforcement officers responded to a University Place home Tuesday to deal with some explosive substances, the city’s police chief said.
A man contacted police after he inherited some substances that caused him concern, Chief Mike Blair said.
The officers then headed for the home on 44th Street West near Narrows View Intermediate School.
Blair said classes were over for the day when officials from multiple law enforcement agencies arrived at the home, so the police presence didn’t effect the school.
There was no crime involved in the incident, Blair added, but about a block was cordoned off while police worked to properly dispose of the substances.
“It’s kind of routine, it just looks big,” Blair said.
The response was expected to wrap up by or 10 p.m.
