Apartment fire displaces about 30 in Kent
About 30 people were displaced from their homes Sunday after a two-alarm fire engulfed a Kent apartment building, according to a press release from Kent Regional Fire Authority.
The release gave this account:
The fire was first reported about 2:05 a.m. in the 23200 block of 88th Avenue South. Crews from Kent, Renton, Tukwila and South King Fire responded. Some of the residents were trapped on balconies when authorities arrived.
Among those rescued were a mother and a baby.
Several people were treated for minor injuries at the scene. No one was transported to the hospital.
The occupants of all 12 units were relocated due to the damage.
Investigators determined the fire was caused by sparks from a charcoal grill on the deck of a first floor apartment.
