An 87-year-old woman died Wednesday after getting caught in her burning Tacoma house.

Firefighters were called about 3 a.m. to the 500 block of North Stadium Way and found the home ablaze.

They discovered the woman inside a bedroom and carried her outside. She was taken to a local hospital, where she died later in the day, Tacoma Fire spokesman Joe Meinecke said.

Her named was not immediately released.

She lived alone.

Investigators believe combustible materials on a heater caused the blaze.

A cat also died in the fire.
