Pierce County invites public to attend charter review meetings

The Pierce County Charter Review Commission has two meetings planned for this month.

The meetings offer a chance for people to hear about proposed changes to the county’s charter and to offer feedback.

The charter was adopted in 1980 and has been amended several times. It is the local equivalent of a constitution and sets principles and policies for county government.

A commission of 21 people is elected to review the charter every 10 years and decide whether to make changes. The commission proposes amendments, which require a public vote during the November general election.

The first meeting is Wednesday at Peninsula High School in Gig Harbor, 14105 Purdy Dr NW. The meeting starts at 7 p.m.

The next in-district meeting will be March 30 at Graham Fire and Rescue Headquarters, 23014 70th Ave. E. The meeting starts at 7 p.m.
