Fire damages four apartments in Sumner
Four apartments in Sumner suffered smoke damage Wednesday after a fire started near an outdoor barbeque and crept up the back wall of the building, according to East Pierce Fire & Rescue.
Firefighters were called about 7:10 a.m. to the complex in the 7200 block of 142nd Avenue East and found flames moving up the back of the building and into the attic.
Although crews were able to keep flames from entering any of the apartments, four units were damaged by smoke.
An estimate of damages was not immediately available.
Chief Bud Backer said the fire appears to have started outside a first-floor apartment near a barbeque.
No one was injured.
