Veteran who rebuilt life after Vietnam to speak at annual prayer breakfast Friday

A Vietnam veteran will be the guest speaker Friday at the Pierce County Prayer Breakfast.

Patrick Cleburne “Clebe” McClary became the platoon leader of the 1st Reconnaissance Battalion in Vietnam as a young marine, and rebuilt his life after he lost his left eye and left arm in hand-to-hand combat.

He’ll share his story at the 38th annual breakfast, which starts at 6:50 a.m. at the Tacoma Dome Convention Center, 2727 E. D St.

Tickets are $30 at the door, but free for military members and their families, including active and reserve members, and veterans.

About 1,500 people attended last year, including some local leaders who spoke, including Tacoma Mayor Marilyn Strickland and County Executive Pat McCarthy.

The Greater Tacoma Christian Laymen’s Outreach sponsors the breakfast, and its 12-member board chooses the speaker.
