Fire damages home in South Tacoma

Fire badly damaged a home in South Tacoma on Friday.

The blaze broke out at the wood-frame house in the 3000 block of South Puget Sound Avenue about 2:10 p.m., said Deputy Chief Faith Mueller of the Tacoma Fire Department.

No one was inside at the time, and no injuries were reported.

Mueller said the cause of the fire was under investigation.

A Tacoma police officer who arrived at the house ahead of firefighters reported a wooden deck outside the home was heavily involved in flames when he got there, Mueller said.

The fire quickly spread through the house and into an attic, she said.
