Changes coming June 26 to Anderson Island ferry schedule

The Pierce County ferry schedule will change at the end of June to reflect the addition of an early morning run and an evening run during the week.

The new service begins Sunday, June 26, although the additional boat trips are scheduled to start Monday, June 27.

New sailings include a 4:45 a.m. boat Monday through Friday from Anderson Island to Steilacoom and an 8:40 p.m. run from Steilacoom to Anderson Island Monday to Wednesday.

The current 8:40 p.m. sailing Thursday to Sunday will remain.

Pierce County made the changes to its ferry schedule after hearing from Anderson Island residents that additional sailings were necessary to meet the needs of island commuters. An extensive transportation study also concluded additional ferry runs would help the county grow ridership which ultimately helps maintain ferry operations.

New printed schedules will be available June 18.
